Braided tissue welt cord is the most commonly used welting product in the indoor furniture industry. It can be found on the edge of cushions, arm rests and decorative elements of most indoor furniture. Manufactured from tightly braided tissue paper, it offers a firm, uniform diameter that holds its shape beautifully while remaining flexible enough to navigate tight corners and curves. Because it is a highly economical choice and prevents stretching or unravelling during the sewing process, it is the most popular piping filler for professional upholstery workrooms.
Choosing the Right Size: With diameters ranging from a delicate 3/32" up to a large 16/32", you can find the exact thickness for any project:
- 3/32" & 4/32": Ideal for delicate trim, throw pillows, and fine detailing.
- 5/32": The industry standard. The most common size for standard sofa and chair seat cushions. Available in standard 500-yard spools, 2,000-yard boxes, and a specialized 250-yard "twin" spool for double-welt applications.
- 6/32" & 8/32": Slightly thicker cord, perfect for heavy upholstery fabrics, larger cushions, or statement trim.
10/32", 12/32", & 16/32": Heavy-duty, oversized piping used for bold decorative accents, large headboards, and bulky commercial seating.
